New 'Word of the Week' Competition!

Next year, we hope to release a new title: Basil McBride's Word of the Week. This will be a compilation of Basil's Word of the Week articles.

Word of the Week began as a literary initiative in the school Basil was working in. The aim was to teach students a new word, which would be sent out to teachers via email. The bodies of these emails (the articles, which students would not be exposed to) were well received by the school's staff.

As the articles mounted, we here at Luain Press decided to share them on our blog. We've shared a lot of them, however, Basil continues to write them! Many do not feature on our blog. So, we have decided to compile ALL of his articles to date, including his unreleased ones, into a book - our next title: Basil McBride's Word of the Week.

Now for the fun part: from now until Christmas eve (Dec 24th), we'll be accepting submissions. You will be able to contribute your very own 'Word of the Week' article to the book. There will be not one, not two, but three lucky winners. Each winner will receive a cash prize of €50, promotion, and a free signed copy of the book, as well as a few unsigned copies for their own distribution. If you would like to submit, carefully read the guidelines below:

Submission Guidelines.

1. Deadline is December 24th, 2023.

2. Only one article per entrant can be submitted.

3. Articles are to be attached as a word doc and sent to luainpress@gmail.com. Please include your name and contact number in the body of the email. The name of your document should be the word and your name, i.e. Toponymy - Basil McBride.

4. The article that you submit must be your own original work - that includes AI generated material. It must not be published anywhere else, in any form.

5. Correspondence about your article will not be entered into unless it is deemed to be one of the three winning articles. You will be contacted either by email or phone by Luain Press.

6. By submitting your article to Luain Press, you are allowing us to publish your article and possibly have an audio version created for our YouTube channel.

7. You must be 18 to enter.

8. A one-off payment of €50 will be given to each winner as well a free signed copy, and a number of free unsigned copies. The contributors will not receive any subsequent royalties, nor will they be able to request any more free copies from Luain Press.

9. Entries must be in English.

10. The winning articles will be announced next January.

11. If no entries are suitable, Luain Press will not announce any winners.
