Back From The Dead - The Poetry's Dead Podcast

I remember watching Adam McKay's The Big Short. One of the main things that stood out to me from that movie was the following quote, which was allegedly overheard at a bar in Washington D.C.:

"Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry."

Well, say what you want, but if that is the case and poetry is dead, then I'm Shane McGowan. In The Poetry's Dead Podcast, which is due to release a new episode on Monday 17th, and is hosted by two of the soundest lads (who are both poets themselves, and, crucially, I might add, living), we will be exposed to the work of artists both new and old - a perfect blend that appeals to those who'd like to see new blood, as well as the legends of old poetry.

If "most people fucking hate poetry", then Alison Mooney countered that very well when she said it should be called The Poetry's Alive Podcast - not as ridiculous as it sounds when you consider that the podcast was the 4th most listened to in the "Irish Books Category" on Apple Podcasts' rankings.

What gets me is the banter between the lads, Leon Dunne and Ryan Duggins. Dunne is a Dublin-based poet, whose work focuses primarily on giving a voice to topics outside the mainstream conversation in a(n) (ironically) conversational style. Duggins' work, on the other hand, uses his working-class gaze and humour to make you laugh and "get [you up] with the times, mate!"

From Seamus Heaney to Whitney Hanson, the podcast is one of the most popular literary podcasts in Ireland; it's putting poetry on the map in a new way and if you haven't already, get onto Spotify, YouTube, or any other major streaming platform and start from episode one like a good lad or lass.

Sure, it's a pass of the time in any case. Find them here: https://www.instagram.com/thepoetrysdeadpodcast/?hl=en

Kind regards,

Lee Sheridan
